Russian President Vladimir Putin has reassured his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian that Moscow will remain a close friend and reliable partner to Tehran amid rising tensions in the Middle East.
In a message sent on Sunday, Putin congratulated Pezeshkian and the people of Iran on the occasion of Nowruz, the Persian New Year. He also expressed hope that Iran would overcome current challenges with dignity and resilience.
Russia Pledges Continued Support
Putin emphasized that Russia will continue to stand “shoulder to shoulder” with Iran during what he described as a difficult period. The message signals continued diplomatic and strategic alignment between the two nations.
Escalation of Military Conflict
Meanwhile, reports indicate that the United States and Israel have launched large-scale military strikes against Iran following the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, along with several military commanders and civilians on February 28.
The strikes reportedly involved intense aerial bombardments targeting both military and civilian sites across Iran, resulting in significant casualties and widespread damage to infrastructure.
Iran Responds with Retaliatory Attacks
In response, Iranian armed forces launched retaliatory strikes targeting US and Israeli-linked positions, including military bases across the region.
The counterattacks involved the use of missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (drones), further intensifying the already volatile situation in the Middle East.
Analysts warn that the escalating conflict could have far-reaching consequences for regional stability and global security if not contained.
